Defending the indefensible by underground

After the bombing of UN schools, mosques and universities, as well as firing at marked aid workers and their vehicles, it is evident Israel has no concern for civilian populations in their latest military campaign against the people of Gaza. From the same military who coated parts of Lebanon in cluster bombs, indiscriminate killing devices, in the final hours of the 2006 war with Hezbollah after a cease fire was agreed, as well as past refugee camp massacres and the shelling of a Gaza beach two years ago, no one is surprised, however most are shocked. For most commentators, politicians and people on the street, there is no defence for Israel’s military actions.

However there are some who do support these actions. And not just Israelis who lap up their military’s “defensive” attacks, intended to muster electoral support for an ailing government. Letters to editors and blog comments show the aggressive state has supporters outside its borders. Opponents of Israel are labelled “anti-Semitic” wilfully ignorant to the fact the Palestinians are also Semites! According to these people the conflict traces back only as far as the pitiful Hamas rockets fired into Israeli southern towns, cited as Hamas breaking an existing truce, ignoring Israel’s own failure to honour the agreement. To these people, who choose to see only half the story, Israel’s aggressive bombing campaign and invasion are entirely justified; every innocent death is merely unfortunate, collateral damage in Israel’s pursuit for peace.

But you won’t find many opponents to Israel’s actions who condone suicide bombing and Hamas rocket attacks on Israel. That’s the difference. One group of people supports universal human rights and sides with those who suffer, to take Robert Fisk’s words. The others, the cheerleaders of Zionism, are either racist fanatics, deceiving themselves or ignorant. There is no defending Israel’s actions, because there is no defending such overwhelming indiscriminate force used against an impoverished people. There is no defending blocking aid, food supplies and medicine to a suffering people. There is no justifying restricting the movements of an entire people. There is no defending a country that thumbs its nose at international law and destroys the homes of families that have stood for decades, and then hides them behind an imposing wall.

And soon, who will defend Israel? With ever disgusting attack they lose more international support. And soon the day must come when even in Israel military action no longer rouses electoral support. The ghettoisation of Palestine will become atrocious to Israelis too, Jews who suffered the same crimes at the hands of oppressors seventy years ago.

As the delegitimization of Israel has metastasized, we are assured that criticism of the Jewish state is not the same as anti-Semitism. We are further assured that anti-Zionism is not the same as anti-Semitism, which is a wee bit more of a stretch.

Let’s see how many mistakes you’ve made here:
If you go on israelnationnews.com you can find list after list of Israelis losing their lives not to harm civilians. The Israeli army was even criticized for NOT raping Arab women. They claimed it had to do with our boys not finding Arab girls attractive rather than their superior value system. I guess Israeli girls must be drop dead gorgeous because Israeli jails are packed with Arab rapists.
We weren’t the only ones who have said anti-Zionism=anti-Semitism. Dr. King said it in one of his last speeches. Look on my blog it’s there.
Anti-Semitism was a term coined in Germany to refer to anti-Jewish prejudice. Palestinians want to redefine the term to make take away from the idea that there are prejudices directed specifically at Jews. Unfortunately people don’t check their facts and buy into this hook-line-and-sinker
The only actions Israel can’t defend is not doing this sooner, supplying “humanitarian aid” which inevitably gets stolen by their own government to fuel the fire of hatred, and allowing Palestinians to throw rocks or worse at them and then allowing them to line up outside the Israeli welfare offices for handouts. Go to Israel. Look at the situation on the ground.
I don’t deny Palestinians are suffering. I argue it’s not our fault. Where are all of these “Arab brothers” to take care of them rather than just funneling weapons into Israel to murder Jews?

Okay, you need medication.
I marvel at what is and isn’t on Israeli news websites. Propaganda even Goebells would be proud of. Why else would you make such statements.
“…you can find list after list of Israelis losing their lives not to harm civilians”.
I can’t imagine the list being very long when only around a dozen or so (sorry too tired to look it up and my dial up is too slow!) Israeli soldiers lost their lives in the latest conflict, half of which was due to friendly fire. Considering the countless testimonies of Israelis firing on white flag waving civilians, you are going to have to try harder.
“The Israeli army was even criticized for NOT raping Arab women. They claimed it had to do with our boys not finding Arab girls attractive rather than their superior value system. I guess Israeli girls must be drop dead gorgeous because Israeli jails are packed with Arab rapists.”
I have never heard that anywhere, it appears your racism has clouded your thoughts.
As for what Dr King said, I don’t care, both Jews and Palestinians ARE semites. Anti-semitism as a term pre-existed the Nazis as prejudice against Jews has rife in Europe and elsewhere for centuries prior to their rise to power.
You are a racist. Condemn your country’s indiscriminate and disproportionate killings and war crimes and maybe you’ll give me reason to retract that statement. As it stands you are simply an example of why many, even in the West, cannot support Israels existence while it maintains its bloody hypocrisy.
Feel free to comment on my blog again in the future, but please refrain from hate-laced racist slurs if you can.
